Central bank of Turkmenistan (Türkmenistanyn Merkezi Banky)


The central bank of Turkmenistan was created in 1991, that is to say the same year as the proclamation of independence of the country with respect to the USSR. Its seat is located at Achgabat and it is directed by a board of directors made up of a governor and several vice-presidents. The objective of this central bank is to control the financial system, to supervise the financial policy put in work in the country and to guarantee the price stability.


This institution must conclude several missions, starting with the emission of the banknotes and the coins, the currency being the Turkoman manat. Commemorative coins are also struck by the central bank of Turkmenistan. In addition, the latter must supervise the banking system and carry out the audit of the institutions of credit as well as the recording of the operations of credit. It is also at this central bank to supervise the operation of the systems of payment and to define the standards for the nonmonetary regulations: the goal is to make the systems of payment transparent. The central bank also manages the reserves of gold and the reserves external of the country.


In addition, the official site of the central bank of Turkmenistan places at the disposal of the general public of many archives concerning the rate of exchange and the market of precious metals.
