Central bank of Uruguay (Banco Exchange LED Uruguay)

It is in 1967 that the central bank of Uruguay was established. Before the creation of this autonomous entity, the emission of the national currency and the supervision of the banking system were entrusted to the Bank value of República Oriental LED Uruguay. A new charter was adopted in 1995 in order to widen the responsibilities of the central bank of Uruguay. The seat of the latter is located at Montevideo: a museum devoted to the coins is also opened with the public.

Several missions must be concluded by this central bank, starting with the emission of banknotes and the coins: the official currency is the Uruguyan peso. In addition, the central bank of Uruguay is the bank, the financial agent and the economic council of the government. It is also the banker of all the government institutions and manages the international reserves of the country. In addition, the regulation and the supervision of the financial institutions are between the hands of the central bank of Uruguay, just as the management of the currency and the credit. The latter plays finally a significant role to play on the international scene since it represents the interests of Uruguay near the international financial organizations.
