How to preserve its stamp collection?

If you are like me a true maniac with your stamp collection, here some councils of conservation which will allow you to keep your collection in state, whatever its age! In the article “How to begin a collection from ticket”, I had already done it parallel between philately, the numismatics, the billetophilie and the conservation of the wine. The conservation of a stamp collection indeed takes again many codes borrowed from the universe of the wine: quality of the environment and quality of the memory support.

Halt with moisture! You in vain will have the most beautiful sorter of stamps of the world, your collection will not last 2 years if the environment of storage is not ideal. Weak hydrometry and constant temperature of 18/20 degrees are the main words of the conservation of your collection. If the part of storage of the stamps is too wet, you are extremely likely to see appearing with the back, or more serious, on the face of your stamps of the yellow spots which will deteriorate your invaluable stamps. Attention also with the memory support, certain sorters of stamps are on the one hand not very practical because obliging the collector to handle and move the stamps regularly to be able to accommodate the small new ones and on the other hand are exposed to moisture than the albums. The sorters of stamps Lindner function on the same principle that a photo sorter and accommodates on a page (covered with a parchment or a transparent plastic), the stamps are thus exposed to moisture and do not preserve themselves in time. The sorter of stamp is very good average to classify and preserve its stamps on a period of time enough cost. I rather advise it with the collectors beginning or of method of “transit” i.e. temporary storage before classification on another support. For the conservation of collections on long run, I rather advise the acquisition of a stamp album Lindner which makes it possible to store your stamps in dedicated sites and to thus avoid handling all your stamps with each addition. These albums avoid the overlapping of the stamps and thus the propagation of moisture if they are exposed there. The albums function on the principle of a sorter (the etymology is misleading!), you can add sheets (often sold separately).  Intended to be kept several years, I advise you to take a robust sorter, whose mechanism is reliable and who agrees to you aesthetically! There exist many models Lindner in many colors, with you to choose! For the remainder, I let to you sort and to classify your stamps according to your desires, some classify by dates, geographic origin, by set of themes,… the important one is that your collection resembles to you! Small easy way, do not forget your grip with stamps, it will be to you of an invaluable help and will avoid dirtying and degrading your stamps;-)
