Cuba - Pick number 102 - Banknote of 1 Peso representing José Martí one of the men more glorified by the cuban people, which regard it as the largest martyr and apostle of the fight for independence. José Martí was born in Havana on January 20th, 1853. Quickly it engaged in the fight anticoloniale, at fifteen years, already, it founded a nationalist newspaper, at 16 years it was stopped for treason and was condemned to six years of forced labors. Released six months later and assigned with residence, it was off-set in Spain during four years. Its exile continued in France, England and in Mexico. An amnesty of the political prisoners enables him to return to Cuba, where it was stopped and returned again to Spain.
